Lancaster Hotels and Motels
So Many Good Choices!

When looking for hotels and motels, whether in the middle of the city or in the heart of the country, in a Civil War-era hotel or on the deck of a steamboat moored on its own private lake, a romantic hideaway for two or a family-size vacation accommodation, there’s a place for any preference and price in Pennsylvania Dutch country.

Many hotels and motels are smoke-free, but some, particularly chain operations, still offer smoking rooms. Others may designate special areas of their facility as smoking lounges. We will note hotels and motels that accommodate smokers.

Many accommodations prohibit pets. We will specify pet-friendly lodging facilities.

If you don’t have a reservation upon your arrival in the area, most times the Greater Lancaster Hotel and Motel Association will be able to help you find one on the spur of the moment. Call them at 866-729-5132 or log on to the Web site at www.padutchlodging.com . In addition to saving you time and aggravation, the association guarantees that it will get you the lowest available published rate.

Although rates are subject to change, we use the following pricing code to indicate the average rate for a one-night stay, in season, for two adults. Note that these rates do not include taxes, gratuities, or add-on services such as room service or premium TV channels unless otherwise indicated. Off-season rates are, of course, lower. October (especially weekends) and June through August are usually considered peak seasons.

_____$ — Less than $65
____$$ — $66-$95
___$$$ — $96-$150
__$$$$ — $151-$200

In Pennsylvania Dutch country, you’ll find just about every major name in lodging, from Hilton to Holiday Inn Express; however, there are many not-so-familiar family-operated options here that can save you money and provide a more local flavor. Don’t be shy about pulling in and asking for a look around.

Listed below, are some tips to keep in mind when staying at Lancaster Hotels and Motels:

  • Check-out time may be 10:00 am or 11:00 am, but if you want to squeeze in a little more sightseeing or shopping or maybe a farewell buggy ride, ask the front desk staff if they will store your luggage for a few extra hours. Many offer this service as a customer courtesy.
  • Before you hit the theme parks, museums, or shopping outlets, be sure to check for discounts at the front desk. Many hotels and motels will reserve tickets to entertainment venues in advance, eliminating waits in line as well as saving you money.
  • After check-in, take a couple on minutes to tune in the free Pennsylvania Dutch country video tour that many lodging spots play continuously over their in-room televisions.
  • With so many great farmers’ markets and roadside stands in the area, why not stock up on some fresh fruits, veggies, and home-baked goods to stow in your room for snacking? Beats the prepackaged stuff in any vending machine! If you have a fridge, stock up on some just-squeezed cider or Pennsylvania Dutch birch beer (nonalcoholic, like root beer with its own tangy kick).
  • If you stay at the Amish Country Motel in Bird-in-Hand or The Travelers Rest Motel in Intercourse, a two-hour guided bus tour of Pennsylvania Dutch country is included with your stay at no additional charge. Several stops will be made along the way, including one to an Amish-owned quilt shop.
  • Some hotels offer babysitting referrals upon request.
  • Unless you’re set on hitting the amusement parks such as Dutch Wonderland and Hersheypark in high season, you’ll find that you can save a bundle on accommodations during off-peak spring, fall, and winter months (holiday periods excepted). To sweeten the pot and fill their rooms during these times, many places put together some very nice seasonal packages combining lodging, dining, and sometimes even entertainment.
